MyCase IQ

NOV 2023 - PRESENT
🎨 Role: End-to-end product designer
👯‍♀‍ Team: 5 software engineers, 1 tech lead, 1 QE, 1 PM
👀 Overview: MyCase is a legal practice and case management software designed for law practitioners. MyCase IQ is an AI toolkit that streamlines legal work with features like smart text editing, document summaries, and case chat. I led design to deliver intuitive tools that boost law firm operational efficiency.

Problem

Small firm lawyers spend 40% of their time on non-billable tasks.

Instead of focusing on practicing law and generating billable hours, a significant portion of small law firm owners' time is taken up by non-billable operational and repetitive tasks, such as communication, data searching, and business management, resulting in profit loss.

Who are we helping?

MyCase helps small to mid-sized law firms streamline practice management.

Key user types include lawyers, paralegals, and office managers. A common need among these users is to enhance the efficiency of practice management.

Ideation

Improve efficiency on routine tasks

Customizable document summary templates

Customizable summary templates streamline the extraction of key information from lengthy legal documents, allowing users to tailor AI-generated summaries to highlight specific details like guardian designations or payment terms.

Improve operational efficiency

Automated task and event generation

AI-powered task and event generation suggests tasks and events from text, streamlining workflows for office managers by tracking to-dos and deadlines efficiently. It reduces manual effort while allowing user review and approval.

*I ideated 3 interaction patterns for AI task and calendar event generation

Improve efficiency on routine tasks

AI Workflows

*Streamlining different tasks with automatic workflow creation based on previous case timeline

User testing

Text Editing - Identified Issue

Interaction clarification

Users were confused between inserting and replacing text in a text editing feature. I added a button that changes to 'replace' only when text is highlighted, preventing accidental overwriting.

Solutions -
The ongoing AI roadmap

With limited resources in both time and technology support, I strategically worked backward from the vision of implementing custom prompts, proactive insights, and workflow integration. This approach allowed me to establish a gradual yet consistent roadmap, ensuring AI integration across various workflows. It set the stage to provide contextual assistance wherever needed while maintaining flexibility to accommodate user input.
